Congratulations to the winners of the 2023 Skip Gates Concerto Competition! The Grand Rapids Youth Symphony & Classical Orchestra held the annual competition on February 13, 2023, for members of both groups.
The winners are as follows:
CLASSICAL ORCHESTRA
1st Prize: Levi Davis, Bass, Bass Concerto in F Major, Mvt. 1 by Antonio Capuzzi
2nd Prize: Isabella Redder, Lidija Habekovic, Violins, Bach Double Violin Concerto, First Movement
3rd Prize: Alexander Byrnes, Violin, Concerto in A Minor, Op. 3, No. 6, 1st Movement. Vivaldi
YOUTH SYMPHONY
1st Prize: Benno Alderink, Clarinet, Mozart clarinet concerto
2nd Prize: Kaitlyn Lawrence, Flute, Chaminade Flute Concertino in D major
3rd Prize: Saiya Zeng, Horn, F. Strauss Concerto Op. 8 Mvt. 1
4th Prize: Heming Liang, Violin, Mozart Violin Concerto No.5 KV 219m Mvt. 1
Performance:
The first-place winner from each group had been scheduled to perform with their ensemble at the spring concert on May 21, 2023 site DeVos Performance Hall.
